Crucial Joins the PCIe 4.0 SSD Club with New P5 Plus SSD
Crucial is preparing the brand's first PCIe 4.0 SSD. The Crucial P5 Plus is already available for pre-order at Amazon, although it’s not officially announced. The P5 Plus SSD continues to adhere to the M.2 2280 form factor and uses Micron's 3D NAND chips. But Amazon doesn’t specify exactly what types of NAND the new Crucial SSD drive uses.
Since it's just a listing on a marketplace, the finer details about the P5 Plus are still unknown, but only basic specifications for the P5 Plus SSD, which make it possible to compare it to its PCIe 3.0 counterpart.
The P5 Plus SSD delivers sequential read speeds up to 6,600 MBps and sequential write speeds up to 5,000 MBps. It's a substantial upgrade over the P5 SSD. The Crucial P5 Plus offers 94% and 67% higher sequential read and write performance, respectively. But the P5 Plus is still a bit behind some rival PCIe 4.0 SSDs that can hit 7,000 MBps reads and over 6,000 MBps writes.
The Crucial P5 Plus PCIe 4.0 is also significantly faster than the P5 SSD, but it isn't more durable. Assuming that information is accurate, the P5 Plus has the same endurance as the P5. This means that the 2TB and 1TB models are rated for 1,200 TBW and 600 TBW, respectively, while the 500GB SSD is only good for 300 TBW.
Since there is no listing for a 250GB drive, it appears that Crucial may only offer the P5 Plus in three capacities: 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The P5 Plus SSDs come with a limited five-year warranty as long as the maximum terabytes written are not exceeded, and that is pretty much the norm for high-end SSDs nowadays.
But no matter how good they are, the new Crucial P5 Plus SSDs will be vulnerable to physical and logical SSD failures that can make critical users data inaccessible. If that happens, the owners of new Crucial P5 Plus SSDs will need to contact a professional data recovery services provider like ACE Data Recovery to get their files and documents back. ACE Data Recovery team can successfully recover data from SSD drives of all makes and models and is ready to help Crucial P5 Plus SSD owners with their data recovery needs.
